A partner in the international consulting firm of Carr, Swanson and
Randolph, Bob Randolph brings a background in business, economics (MA,
Politics and Economics, Oxford University) and Law (JD Harvard Law School)
to his work in international development where he chiefly manages the
design and implementation of mediation programs. Over
the past twenty years, Bob has been actively involved in the international
arena as a corporate executive, an international arbitrator and
mediator, diplomat promoting democracy and governance (USAID), a practicing
attorney specializing in civil rights and corporate governance issues,
and a Conflict Resolution Expert with experience in Eastern Europe, Asia,
the Middle East and Africa.
Since 2006, Bob has been intensely involved in leading mediation projects
in Nepal and Egypt. After successfully completing a dispute
resolution initiative for the Supreme Court of Nepal during 2006-2007,
Bob shifted his focus to Egypt where he is currently leading CSR's efforts
to design and implement a mediation centre for the Ministry of Investment's "General
Authority for Free Trade Zones and Investment" which will focus on
corporate governance and commercial disputes.
Bob has led assessment teams in Croatia, Bulgaria and Bosnia, has managed
the design and implementation of mediation and conflict resolution programs
in Croatia, Bulgaria, Nepal and Egypt, and has also advised governments
on the enactment of Alternative Dispute Resolution ("ADR") statutes
to reduce judicial backlogs and enhance the rule of law in countries with
emerging legal systems (Nigeria, Croatia and Bulgaria).
Bob has extensive international experience as a senior executive with USAID. From
1998-2001 he headed the USAID Asia & Near East Bureau (Senate Confirmed)
where he had responsibility for democracy and governance and conflict resolution
programs in Egypt, Nepal, West Bank/Gaza, Lebanon, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia
(Acheh and East Timor), India and the Philippines (Mindanao). Bob
also has a broad experience with transitioning countries, having led the
first US missions to Cambodia and Vietnam in 1995 while with the State
of Washington, and having spearheaded the opening in the year 2000 of the
first USAID office in Vietnam since 1975.
Bob is a member of the Washington State and Virginia Bars. A Rhodes
Scholar, Bob holds an MA from Oxford University in Philosophy, Politics
and Economics. He is a an honors graduate of Harvard Law School and
recently earned a LL.M. in International Tax (International Tax Focus)
from Georgetown Law School (2002),
