Before there was Tiger Woods – there was Calvin Peete.
Coming from very poor circumstances, Calvin didn’t
begin playing golf until he was in his 20s. Calvin fell from
his grandmother’s cherry tree when he was 12, shattering
his elbow. That unfortunate injury might also be one of the
reasons Calvin can hit a golf ball with such precision.
Read his amazing story as written by Dolly Ness. For
Peete’s Sake is an intimate look
at Calvin’s childhood which was full of so many
chances to lead him astray. But when golf took over his
life, he rose above poverty and grim circumstances to
break golfing barriers and become the first black golfer
to win a major golf tournament.
